Suburbia has never before produced such a raw brand of hip hop. Chaz Phenom, a New Jerseyan rapper formerly known as Fresh, has been making hits since the spring of 2006. Having grown up listening largely to alternative and classic rock music, Chaz's somewhat abrupt about-face in the direction of rap may have initially unnerved his peers, but the jaded angst his songs present retains the influence of genres such as post-grunge on his own form of hip hop, allowing him to appeal to a wide range of listeners.
